Too Cute!!!

I found this on Youtube. This young lady is reading one of my favorite children's book series- Olivia. I usually read most of the Olivia books to my students through out the year. I usually read Olivia Saves the CircusOlivia Saves the Circus and Olivia and the Missing Toy at the begining of the school year when I do my unit on proper book care with the 1st grades. The students love Olivia; even my boys. I have two Olivia dolls and the students are so cute with them; they always say hi to her when they come into the Library and they are always begging me if they can hold them during her stories.

Guess what I got for my library!!!

The newest SMARTBoard.

Here is the post I wrote for my school's blog:

Welcome the newest addition to our Library
We are getting closer to the start of school kids (seven days, but who is counting). The new Library schedule is posted on the Library's web site. New book displays are being put up as I type this. Needless to say, I am excited for the beginning of the school year and seeing all my friends back in the Library.

OK- I have to admit that there is one more reason why I am excited to start the year. It has to do with the new addition to our computer lab area; our new Library SMART Board. We are lucky to have one of the newest models of the SMART Board, the 600i. This model has the projector and speakers built onto it and can work with a wireless lap tops. I enjoy incorporating the SMART Board into Library lessons- students find the lessons more interesting and it blends technology, research skills and literacy together. Missed out on a brainstorming session? Do not worry, we saved our ideas using Smart Notebook. Having trouble seeing the text on the article we found on Kids Infobits? Do not fret- we can magnify it using the tools so you do not need to strain your eyes. Did not get that Power Point on parts of the dictionary? We can play Dictionary Hangman using the interactive SMART Board. Having this tool available in the Library will definitely make Library more interesting this year.

Shameful

Shameful on how I have been maintaining this blog. Here is what happened-

I got a new job as a LMS in the Revere Public Schools. It is an almost brand new library and I was there 1st professional librarian. It was in good shape but it still took a lot of time in setting up and establishing a routine with the students and staff (all very successful and worth the hard work).

Then to help supplement my collection (at school not at home) I started to write reviews for Susan Babb's and NRMLS Book Review blog. That took sometime too.

And did I mention that through out this I was pregnant. Yup- I had my little boy Logan at the end of June. He is amazing and he loves libraries and reading.

So finally I am back to my normal routine (it only took a year) so I promise to be more faithful to the Young Adult Librarian blog.
